For those of you who have a slow computer and don’t know how to defrag, try this before you call a computer repair service.
In Windows XP
- Click on Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools – Disk Defragmenter.
- The Disk Defragmenter will open.
- Click on System (C:)
- Click the Analyze Button – A message will tell you if you need to defragment.
- If you do press the Defragment – This process could take several hours depending on how fragmented your disks are. At the bottom of the window you will see the progress in terms of percent finished.
- Close out of the program when finished.
Windows Vista – Defragmentation is normally done automatically. To bring up defragmentation options Search for Defragment in the Start Menu.

If you’re like most people these days, you spend around twenty to fifty dollars per month on high speed internet. It’s a big chunk of most people’s budget: That’s $240 – $600 per year.
If you’d like to save money on your internet access you have a couple options.
1. Return to Dialup – I don’t recommend this option unless you only need basic email access. Most people probably can get by solely on dialup. Then again, most people don’t have the time to spend waiting on their computer. You can even get dialup for free up to 10 hours per month with Netzero.
2. Shop around – Consider switching from Cable to DSL or vice-versa. You could also consider the viability of replacing your DSL & Phone Package with another cell phone line and Cable internet. Most people will save around $10-$25/month by doing this.
3. Share – Sharing is something your parents tried to teach you early on and you likely aren’t utilizing it as much as you could. Your neighbors may be happy to split their internet costs and service with you! Most high speed internet connections (even dsl) are enough for several users to utilize at one time. Try it out: Make friends with a neighbor and ask them if they’d like to try it for a month. You could save half the money or more if you split it more than two ways.
